Thousands of bikers packed the city center this afternoon, Saturday 29th October, to register their opposition to the EU type approval regulations which include proposals for mandatory ABS & Periodic Technical Inspections.
The riders were met at the Dail by Phil Prendergast MEP & Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD. The demonstration, organised and run by a group acting under the “United Bikers of Ireland” banner left nobody in any doubt about the strength of feeling amongst the biking community about the proposals. The demonstrators came from all over the country, and the run was well organised and well marshalled.
A formal MAG Ireland delegation attended the demonstration to underline our support. Present were Chairman Marc O’Loideoin and Road Safety Officer Linda O’Loideoin, and of course the dozens of MAG members who turned out on their bikes to support the demo and help drive home the message that we as bikers are not happy with several aspects of the type approval legislation.
MAG Ireland congratulates all who took part in the demo, and we extend our appreciation & thanks to the United Bikers of Ireland committee who worked so hard to organise the demonstration & in particular for their commitment to deliver a positive and constructive view of us as bikers. MAG commends all who took part and helped to drive home a clear and unambiguous message to our elected representatives that we as bikers demand to be heard on issues that will directly affect us for years to come.
We now urge everyone who took part to write to their MEP. MAG Ireland has posted a list of MEP’s with contact details and a sample letter you can use to make your MEP aware of your concerns. See the following MAG Ireland post for full details of how to do this;
