SHARP, the safety rating for motorcycle helmets set up by the UK Department for Transport in 2007, has just released 14 new helmet ratings including 9 full face and 5 flip-front models, taking the total number of helmets rated to 261.
SHARP provides an independent assessment of how much protection a helmet can offer in an impact. Helmets are rated from 1 to 5 stars; the more SHARP stars a helmet has, the better the protection it can give.
The SHARP web site has comprehensive coverage of all the helmets tested, and also explains how and why the tests are implemented. If you’re curious to see how your motorcycle helmet measures up, head on over to http://sharp.direct.gov.uk to find out.
