If you declared your motorcycle off the road under the new rules introduced last year, it’ll soon be time to renew.
Crucially, the renewal must be made in advance during the month in which the previous declaration expires. So if you declared your bike off the road from August 2013 to July 2014, and you intend to make a further declaration to keep it off the road, you MUST make that declaration during July.
The Department of the Environment has told MAG Ireland that “1,631 vintage vehicles were declared off the road in August 2013 and 6,802 in September 2013, in most cases for a full year.” Remember, those figures do not include modern vehicles which were declared as being off the road.
Renewal notices are now being issued by the Department of Transport requesting that owners either make a further declaration of non-use or tax their vehicle. The renewals are being issued for the vehicles early in the month in which the previous declaration expires.
You can make a declaration online at www.motortax.ie using the PIN number given on the renewal notice, as well as in motor tax offices. There is no charge for making a declaration of non-use of a vehicle.
Remember:
- You must make the new declaration in advance of the current one expiring.
- You can so online using the Pin from the renewal notice.
- There is no charge for making an off the road declaration.
Example:
Where a declaration was made from September 2013 to end August 2014, a further declaration must be made during August 2014.
