We are saddened to report that Northern Ireland based “Right to Ride” has recently announced that they are to cease rider representative activities forthwith.
Founded in 2009 and run by Trevor Baird and Dr. Elaine Hardy, Right to Ride was an effective conduit for information on issues affecting anyone on two (or three) wheels in Northern Ireland and an excellent source of informative content on EU issues pertaining to biking.
We MAG Ireland have had the pleasure of working with both Trevor and Elaine over the years and indeed Trevor has also been a capable and articulate representative for us, representing MAG Ireland both at FEMA and in the European Motorcyclists’ Forum. Elaine was generous in sharing the many insights gained through her research, notably in the area of motorcycle casualties, while also providing a great deal of support, assistance and input on EU related matters over the years.
The whole area representing riders is an incredibly complex, difficult and often thankless space in which to make progress. Only by pooling our collective resources can we as riders have any prospect of keeping on top of the issues which affect us whether they be local, national or international. Doing that just got quite a bit harder.
Right to Ride exemplified the extraordinary effort that goes into distilling the issues facing riders and presenting them to the public in an accessible manner while at the same time making coherent and thoroughly researched inputs where necessary. We in MAG Ireland, and by extension you as a rider, have been fortunate to benefit from the efforts made by Trevor and Elaine over the years.
On behalf of our members we extend our sincere thanks and offer our best wishes for the future.
